Max likes Tinker Toys!

The other day Max called us and asked us if we had any Tinker Toys. He read a book that showed a picture of them. Do we have Tinker Toys? Well, only a few! So look out Max, there may be a few coming your way any day now! (But Grandpa played with them first!)

Grandma Ollie

This is the last time we saw Ollie alive. We went to a Christmas dinner with her at Good Sam's, the place she lived. We had a good time. We enjoyed a Christmas program and a delicious meal. We gave her a box of chocolates which she absolutely loved! She is eating one (of several) in the bottom picture. She went in to the hospital the next day. We miss you Ollie.

Grandma Ollie

After spending a full month in the hospital, Grandma Ollie was moved to the Dementia Unit at Good Sam's. We worried a little about how she would make the transition, but today went really well! We had fixed her room up with things that she loves so hopefully that helped. The staff said she spent the afternoon sleeping in her chair in the sun. We saw her at dinner time and she was happy to see us and was doing well. I hope she does well there. She is a good lady.

7 Years of Bad Luck

Well, not really.  We don’t really believe in bad luck, but if we did, we’d be in trouble!  Reed got something out of the medicine cabinet, slid the mirror shut and walked out of the room and heard a loud crash!  This is what we saw:

This mirror (used to be) 30” x 36”.
That's a lot of glass!

Poo Head--The Game

2-3 decks of cards
deal everyone 9 cards
put 3 face down without looking
put "best" 3 cards on top of face down ones (2, 10, Ace, King, etc)
2 plays on anything
7 reverses
8 skips
9 the next person plays a card under 9
10 "blows up" the pile.  Then the cards are out of play.  Can't play on a 2
4 of a kind also blow up the pile (can use 5, 6 etc if want)
If you can't play on card, you have to pick up the pile
The last one with cards is the Poo Head.

And My Prayer Was Answered, Too!

Yes!  I found the receipt!  I am sure it is all due to the prayers of others, especially the dear, sweet lady that I found the key for.  I called her tonight and thanked her.  I really do feel blessed.

I could have very easily overlooked it.  I have over 100 pillowcases here that the YW have made and they are going to be donated to Harbour House.  There was one that was just folded funny, so tonight, I unfolded it and the receipt fell out!  How did it get in there?  I don't know.  And I don't care.  I just know that it is found.  I checked and my passport stuff has arrived in Quebec so my citizenship card is safe.  Whew!  Tender mercies.  I love them.

An Answer to Someone's Prayer

I was an answer to someone's prayer today!  It was a tender mercy.  An elderly lady in our town lost her key to the family history center a few weeks ago.  She has called Reed several times, called me at work, and every time we saw her she would ask if we had found her key.  Since we don't travel in the same circles, (as in I never go to the FHC!), I thought, why is she asking me?

Now for the rest of the story.  Today I worked at the Seminary and there were lots of pop bottles piling up so I decided to take them to the bottle depot.  I do this maybe once a year.  I got my little slip of paper from the bottle depot and then took it in to the gas station to get the money for it.  While I was waiting, I happened to notice a key just sitting on the counter.  It had the same kind of key ring the lady had described.  I asked whose it was.  They said they didn't know.  Someone found it on the floor a few weeks ago and it had been sitting there ever since.  I told them I thought I knew whose it was and could I take it.  Sure, they said, so off I went to the lady's house.

She was so happy!  It was her long lost key.  She has no idea how it got to the gas station.  It is across the street from the FHC, so maybe she dropped it outside and a kid found it on his way from the school to the gas station.  Anyway, it felt good to be the answer to someone's prayer.  She had been praying, and fasting, and confessing (! her words, not mine).  She was so grateful.  I asked her to pray for me now.  I have been searching for 2 weeks for the tracking number for the passport info I sent in.  I sure would like to know if it got there!  It contained my original copy of my CDN citizenship and it is irreplaceable!  Maybe if we all pray it will show up!

A Good Story

A young couple, Lisa and John, moved into a new neighborhood. One morning while they were eating breakfast, Lisa looked out the window and watched her next-door neighbor hanging out her wash.
“That laundry’s not clean!” Lisa exclaimed. “Our neighbor doesn’t know how to get clothes clean!”
John looked on but remained silent.
Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, Lisa would make the same comments.
A few weeks later Lisa was surprised to glance out her window and see a nice, clean wash hanging in her neighbor’s yard. She said to her husband, “Look, John—she’s finally learned how to wash correctly! I wonder how she did it.”
John replied, “Well, dear, I have the answer for you. You’ll be interested to know that I got up early this morning and washed our windows!”
